Let’s face it: Our teeth don’t always look good. And, no matter how we may try to hide them, they can still be seen and can be a great source of embarrassment. Damaged teeth can even impede career opportunities and our social life. It’s just not good to have noticeably bad teeth.

So, veneers were developed to help people suffering from cracked, chipped or stained teeth. The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) defines veneers as “thin pieces of porcelain used to recreate the natural look of teeth, while also providing strength and resilience comparable to natural tooth enamel. It is often the material of choice for those looking to make slight position alterations, or to change tooth shape, size, and/or color.”

Veneers, which are typically made of porcelain, are custom made to fit your teeth. They are designed only for your teeth and will do the following for the cosmetic dental patient:

  1. Close gaps in teeth
  2. Correct misalignments
  3. Cover stains
  4. Correct misshapen teeth
  5. Cover cracked and chipped teeth

Veneers are standard technology these days and can be done in no more than two visits to the dental office.

First, have a consultation with your cosmetic dentist. They will do an analysis of your teeth and see if they can do the porcelain veneers in-house or if they need to be sent to a lab.

Second, Ron Cooper, DDS, which offers cosmetic dentistry such as veneers, would do the following process:

  1. The teeth are cleaned and any old surface restorations are removed.
  2. An impression is taken of the prepped tooth and sent to a lab where a veneer is fabricated.
  3. The veneer is applied with bonding resin and curing light.
  4. After the veneer is set, it is shaped and polished to look like a natural tooth.

Once the porcelain veneers are placed, a follow up appointment is scheduled. They need to be flossed and brushed (using a non-abrasive, fluoride toothpaste) like regular teeth. The dentist checks for comfort and placement.

Veneers are a tried and true method for restoring smiles and confidence. They are low maintenance and the results are priceless. No more hiding teeth, being embarrassed in social settings or losing career or business opportunities as veneers will resolve those situations for good.
